Legal Metrology - Verification & Certification
VERIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS

The use of accurate measuring instruments used in trade is vital, as it protects all participants in the marketing of goods and services and promotes consumer confidence in the correctness of trade dealings involving mass, volume, length, area and number.
Measuring instruments used in trade must be certified at regular intervals and after repairs as compliant with legal requirements by a SANAS accredited laboratory. A certificate is issued and a certifying mark is applied to the instrument.
Legal Metrology also certifies instruments when required and acts as a referee in disputes concerning their accuracy.
Please contact the laboratories to ascertain its scope of accreditation, best Measurement capability and fee structure.

Only the Director of Trade Metrology is allowed to issue a concession. A concession may be granted and will normally be restricted to a time period. The applicant will be notified whether the application was successful.
