INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION AND AGREEMENTS
 
FAI represents South Africa regionally and internationally

REGIONAL REPRESENTATION


Codex Committee for Africa (CC Africa)
Various African countries host CC Africa annually. FAI attends and participates in these meetings.

Mozambique
Technical Cooperation Agreement: February 2008.

Mauritius
Technical Cooperation Agreement: February 2008.

Namibia
Agreement between Namibian Government (Ministry of Trade and Industry: August 2006.
Cooperation agreement between FAI and NTI. FAI give technical assistants to the Namibian Standards Institute and assist in the training of NSI inspectors.

SADCSTAN
Attend and participate in meeting in order to align Compulsory Specifications in the SADC region.

INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION

Thailand
Technical Cooperation Agreement exists between FAI and DOF Thailand. This TCA is maintained through annual Joint Management Committee and Joint Technical Committee meetings. Annual exchange of inspectors for training purposes in food safety and food safety systems and food processing technology.

Canada
MOU with Canadian Food Inspection Agency on the exchange of information/inspection systems.

China
Annual training of selected FAI inspectors in food safety and food safety systems and food processing technology.

USA
FAI attends and participates in annual International Sensory Workshops. FAI inspectors participate as expert trainers.

Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC)
CAC is hosted in various countries annually. FAI attends and participates as part of the South African delegation.

Codex Committee for Fish and Fishery Products (CCFFP)
CCFFP is hosted in various countries annually. FAI attends and participates as leader of the South African delegation and also participates in various physical and electronic working groups of the CCFFP.

CCFICS (Codex Committee for Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems)
CCFICS is hosted in Australia annually. FAI attends and participates in meetings and also participates in various physical and electronic working groups of the CCFICS

International Association for Fish Inspectors (IAFI)
Various countries host IAFI annually. FAI attends and participates in IAFI meetings. FAI Senior Manager serves on the Board of Directors

World Trade Organisation (WTO)
FAI has the commitment to comply with the TBT and SPS agreements of the WTO. FAI is part of the National SPS Committee and attends and participate at SPS meetings.

Australia
Appointment by Australian Quarantine and Inspection Servise (AQIS) as competent authority for export certification of fishery products. (quarantine issues): June 2000.

Papua New Guinea
Appointments as competent authority for certification of fishery products (quarantine issues) exported to Papua New Guinea: June 2000.

Brazil
Recognised as the competent authority for the inspection and issue of health guarantees of fish and fishery products to Brazil by Brazilian authorities (DIPOA): April 2003.

Far East countries
Recognised by the Department of Health as well as importing countries in Far East (China, Taiwan, Japan, etc.) as the regulatory body for providing health guarantees in respect of exports of fish and fishery products.

FAI only enters into agreements with the relevant authorities in other countries (WTO/SPS Agreement).
